2007 Notable University of Scranton Professor, Dr. John McInerney
will host a series of lectures about the "Grapes of Wrath", the Dust
Bowl, and other topics related to the book and time period in American
history. The lectures will be broadcast via Channel 61 at 12:30 AM,
6:30 AM, 12:30 PM and 6:30 PM every Tuesday in October. |

Friday, October 5, 2007 The Fruits
of the Depression, A Times-Tribune Retrospective Photo Exhibition.
Starting October 5th and ongoing throughout the month at the Times
Building and at the following locations in Scranton: Post Office N
Washington Ave, Albright Memorial Library, Moses Taylor Hospital, and
in the lobby of the Royal Theatre, University of Scranton prior to the
performances of "The Grapes of Wrath." The Exhibition will feature
photos published in the Scranton Times from the 1930's. The Great

rails with a hobo. Ranger Bill Clark from Steamtown National Historic
Site, Scranton, recreated the role of a Depression Era Hobo. Children
and Families will learn why these men became hobos, who they rode the
rails and how they communicated with each other by drawings called

O'Steen. A free high school matinee will be offered on November 9,
2007 at 10:00 AM for area schools. Ticket prices are $8 general, $5
faculty, staff, students and seniors. |

Reads Annual Symposium Event at 11:00am located at the University of
Scranton. The Annual Symposium, open to the public for a small fee,
will be held at the University of Scranton. A panel of area scholars
will discuss the themes and implications of the "Grapes of Wrath".
Expert panelists include: Dr. Michael O'Steen (University of
Scranton), Rabbi Joseph Mendelson (Temple Israel), and others.
Audience participation and group discussion makes this event the high
point of the community read! Brunch follows the panel discussion and
the event concludes with a performance of the "Grapes of Wrath."
